Clearly taking a page out of November’s TBA, the Pocatello Police Department is doing a little No Shave November/Decembeard of their own. Some PPD officers will be growing out goatees this winter, to raise money for the Secret Santa fund. This is kind of a big deal, you guys!
Although it might not seem like it, this is a landmark moment in Pocatello police history. Normally, there is a department policy that strictly forbids officers from sporting any kind of facial hair, meaning you’ll never see a stereotypical mustachioed cop knocking on your car window in our fair city. But because their hearts grew three sizes this year, the PPD is allowing officers to grow goatees (nothing else!) that are in compliance with department standards (police officer Louis C.K., not ice-cream-binge Louis C.K.).
But hang on, those goatees don’t come cheap. In exchange for the facial hair, all participating officers must donate $40 to the Secret Santa Fund. For civilian employees, $40 will earn the right to dress business casual on Thursdays and Fridays. All funds raised by the PPD will be matched by the local chapters of the Police Union and the Fraternal Order of Police. The department is looking to raise $2,000 by Dec. 15 to support two local families in need.
So take advantage of the bearded cops while you can! Get in a few light-hearted jokes or facial hair comments, because you only get to see this once. Who knows? Maybe a “nice goatee” at a traffic stop will get you out of a ticket! A “nice goatee, pig,” however will still be ineffective.
