Roommate denies having sex with shooting victim

Levi Bodrero, roommate of the Friend Zone Shooter, tells his sexless side of the story.

Well we all saw a bunch of drama coming from a mile away on this one. Idaho Falls Police reported yesterday that Russell Keith Poulsen, 26, shot a woman in the chest after he caught her having sex with his roommate (the woman was not his girlfriend, as was erroneously reported initially by yours truly). The woman was taken to the hospital and the man was taken to jail.

So here comes the roommate, with his own story. Spoiler alert: It doesn’t involve any sex!

Levi Bodrero, 27, contacted Local News 8 to tell the world what REALLY happened:

“She goes, ‘no Russ, please don’t do it’ and he goes ‘I’m gonna kill that son of a B,’ and all of a sudden I hear ‘pop’ and she fell straight to the floor,” Bodrero said outside the main entrance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon.

He described the moments after he said he witnessed his roommate, Poulsen, shoot Hill.

“I ran over and flipped her onto her back, and that’s when I saw the big black hole in her chest,” he said.

But wait! What about that sex we heard about? You know, the alleged reason for shooting another human being in the chest?

But Bodrero says he and Hill were not having sex.

We asked Bodrero why police would say otherwise in the official report.

“I’m really not quite sure,” he said. “I don’t know if maybe Russell had said it or whatever the case was, or maybe just got misconstrued.”

Ok, so they weren’t having sex. So then why would Poulsen just suddenly assume they were and launch into a violent tirade? Perhaps they had long-term friendship in which he imagined non-existent romantic feelings and, at the end of his rope, also imagined her and the roommate having sex to justify his violence against the woman who never loved him back. Roommate?

Bodrero also said Poulsen was drunk, and trying to get romantic attention from Hill.

“He was definitely very intoxicated at the time,” he said.

He also said Poulsen became increasingly angry as his advances were ignored.

“When she denied his advances because they had known each other for so many years, she said ‘You’re just in the friend zone,” said Bodrero. “That made him very mad.”

BOOM. OUCH. The vicious “friend zone.” Well if in fact the two were old friends, as commenter Katie Joy Hammond told us yesterday, it would make sense that her finally telling him they were in the friend zone could have set him off, causing him to grab his gun, shoot her in the chest and make up a story in his head to justify it all.

Now, it’s important to keep our eyes on the important things here. The victim, 24-year-old Dominique Hill, is in the intensive care unit at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She’s in fair condition and doctors expect her to make a recovery. Poulsen’s three kids (yeah, he has three kids) were with their mother at the time of the shooting, away from all the bullets and violence.

It’s also worth mentioning that Poulsen hasn’t been to court and is, of course, innocent until proven guilty. What seems clear as day is that he will no longer be in the friend zone. I’m not sure if there’s an “enemy zone” or a “tried to kill me zone” but he’s definitely down there somewhere.
