A self-proclaimed skinhead from north Idaho endured quite possibly the most embarrassing thing a skinhead could ever endure. On July 3, Daren C. Abbey approached Marlon L. Baker inside J.D.’s bar in Bayview and told him he didn’t belong in the bar or in town because he’s black. According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department report, “Baker stated Abbey told him ‘blacks’ were not welcome in Bayview and he had better leave before something happened.” Abbey then poked Baker in the chest.
That maybe wasn’t the smartest idea.
Baker, obviously feeling threatened at all of this, “instinctively” punched Abbey in the face, knocking him out cold. Just like that. After he woke up, Abbey told Baker that if he behaved himself around the whites everything would be cool and he would be allowed to stay in Bayview. Wow. Furthermore, when he was being arrested, he said “What, you’re arresting the white man?”
That probably didn’t help.
On Thursday, Abbey agreed to be sentenced on a felony charge of malicious harassment, Idaho’s hate crime law, because of, you know, all the racist threats and stuff. It should be mentioned that although Abbey is currently living in north Idaho, he isn’t a native, he’s a transient from Sacramento. So don’t go being all “Idaho is full of violent skinheads, blah blah.” We only have some skinheads who only live here temporarily. Their racism thing clearly isn’t very effective anyway.
