Remember that armed robbery in the parking lot of Fred Meyer back in October? The one where the guy said two black men robbed him at gunpoint in broad daylight? Well none of that actually happened, according to Pocatello Police. In fact, police have now arrested the supposed victim, William “Kevin” Peterson, 58, for filing a false police report. Oh no he DIDN’T!
According to Peterson, he was just sitting in his truck minding his own business on the afternoon of Thursday, October 20, when a heavy-set black man got into his truck and pulled a gun on him. According to Peterson, the man stole his cell phone and prescription medication. The suspect then got into a car, driven by another black man, and drove off.
Police were looking for two black men in their mid-40’s, a heavy-set one with a shaved head, both arms and neck covered in tattoos, and another man with a medium build and some facial hair. Now, they’re looking for nobody, because the whole thing was, allegedly and very creatively, made up.
Now we get to play the Why Did Peterson Make It Up? game, in which we think of motives for the fake robbery. Did he want more pain meds? Maybe he had a thing against black people. Maybe he’s just crazy and starved for attention! According to Pocatello Police Lt. Paul Manning, he’s still sticking to his story, so we might never know.
